Yes, I can make pie.

I’m going to start this off by saying that I don’t really cook. Ever. Maybe a few times a year. My basic diet involves sandwiches, salads, mexican food and fruit. If something takes more than 5 min for me to make, I probably don’t make it.

I think that 2011 will be different though.

I decided to make my boyfriend (and roommates) a complete meal yesterday. Just for the heck of it. Salad with homemade dressing and fresh avocado, dijon-lime baked salmon, 3-cheese pasta in a white wine cream sauce, and of course, blackberry pie.

I’ve never made a pie before. Joy of Cooking was immensely helpful. I’m pretty sure I read the chapter about pies three times. I went out and bought a pie dish and a pastry blender. I dove in.

It might not have been the most perfectly beautiful pie in the world, but much to my surprise, it was unbelievably delicious. Despite taking a couple of hours to make (yes I made the crust from scratch) it was worth it.
